Welcome to Chi Yun Yuan Restaurant (熾妘苑), a culinary gem located at 2469, Jalan Baru, Permatang Tinggi, in the charming town of Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia. This establishment has garnered attention for its inviting atmosphere and diverse menu offerings that cater to all tastes. With a commitment to quality and an ambiance that's both cozy and welcoming, it presents itself as a perfect spot for families, friends, and food enthusiasts alike.
Upon stepping into Chi Yun Yuan, one is immediately struck by its warm, decorative interiors. The ambience encourages diners to relax and unwind while enjoying their meals. Many patrons appreciate the comfortable environment, making it an excellent choice for casual outings or special gatherings.
The menu features a range of dishes, including local favorites and unique offerings. Highlights include the fried black pomfret, which is noted for its crispy texture, allowing diners to indulge without worrying about smaller bones. This dish has received positive feedback, paired effectively with rice, creating a satisfying meal experience. However, opinions vary on other items, such as the red wine pork bun, which some diners found lacking in both filling and flavor.
Another notable mention is the Fried Fish, admired for its careful preparation that keeps the meat juicy and well-flavored, complemented by a delightful black sauce. While side dishes like cucumber pickles may have received criticism for being overly sour, the general consensus is that the main dishes tend to shine. There’s also an accommodating choice for pet owners, with an outdoor seating area ideal for those who wish to dine alongside their furry friends.
Service at Chi Yun Yuan has generally been described as attentive, with staff on hand to quickly address any concerns. However, feedback regarding hygiene, particularly the presence of flies, has been highlighted as an area for improvement. With a commitment to enhancing the dining experience through better management of such issues, this restaurant is poised for growth and greater acclaim.
In summary, Chi Yun Yuan Restaurant stands out in Bukit Mertajam with its diverse menu and pleasant atmosphere. While some dishes may require refinement, the overall experience remains enjoyable, setting the stage for future visits. Whether seeking a casual meal, a gathering place, or simply a sampling of local flavors, Chi Yun Yuan is well worth a stop on your culinary journey.

Red wine pork bun the name is sound special but taste is actually so so only. Pork meat too little and not juicy. Fried black pomfret with rice is crispy and u can bite all the small bone also. Kampung egg plant taste is average pork mince too little. Environment here is comfortable.

Today we ordered the new fried fish menu meals. We were not disappointed as the fish was fried well & the fish meat was still juicy! Love the accompanying black sauce. The cucumber pickles side dish however need to be improved as it was too sour(vinegar was overpowering)! Would much prefer the original Nasi Lemak sides of peanuts & anchovies instead of pickle cucumber.

Very nicely decorated environment, welcoming service and generous portion of food with reasonable price. Almost everything is above and beyond except for one, the flies. There are too many flies invading the drink with one manage to dive in, the service crew is quick enough to apologize and replace a new one. The incident will not discouraged return and hopefully the owner understand the criticality of flies/hygiene. Surely a 5 stars, and will definitely give it a 5 upon seeing improvement on next visit.

My first time here so ordered only two types of noodles and bought the red wine pork bun. It’s a total disappointment with the red wine pork bun. The filling is miserably little and the taste isn’t that good . Both noodles were good. The ambience is relaxing and cosy. Service was good.
